NYFW update! (and our secret weapons for glowing skin)

The Parlor Beauty Squad was invited backstage for another season at New York Fashion Week!  Serving the Aveda makeup team under the leadership of Global Artistic Director of Makeup, Janell Geason, we had front row and behind-the-scenes access to fashion’s biggest stage.  We’re here to bring the trends to you before they hit the streets!  Keep reading for insider tips on upcoming trends in makeup and our favorite products to get glowing skin.

Skin Care before Makeup

Backstage at NYFW for the Fall/Winter 2017 season, we saw a focus on skincare as prep for makeup.  New Tulasara advanced skincare from Aveda is a secret weapon of makeup artists to create gorgeous glowing canvases for makeup to be applied.  The key here is not to be afraid of hydration.

Tulasara Wedding Masques for face and eye have been our go-to moisturizing products to prepare the model’s skin for makeup.  It’s inspired by the Haldi ceremony in India, where a special concoction was applied to the face the night before a wedding to ensure glowing, supple skin.

Elle walks the runway for Leanne Marshall AW17

The rebellious punk inspirations on the runway brought us a lot of excitement for upcoming trends in makeup.  One of our favorite looks this season was for Leanne Marshall where a dramatic and expressive bold eye look stole the show.  Don’t be afraid to try something a little outside your comfort zone.  There’s no need to have an immaculate liner look.

FullSizeRender (1)Embracing Uniqueness

At the “test” for Verdad before their NYFW debutThis season saw beauty take a focus on enhancing individual features.  If strong brows were naturally present, we enhanced them and let them have the focus.  Small lips?  No over-drawing this time!  Instead, we embraced the unique characteristics of each face, letting natural beauty take center-stage, even when wearing a bold red lip!  The common denominator was gorgeous glowing skin.

My favorite product to use was the new Tulasara Radiant Awakening Oleation Oil.  It’s a great product that was used to prep faces for makeup and also used as a gentle makeup remover at the end of the show. -Wendy Callenberger, Apprentice at Parlor

Boy Makeup

Makeup for men is becoming more mainstream and designers are taking note.  We saw looks ranging from subtle enhancements to full on bronzed eyes.  It’s a celebration of individuality with color and a movement towards freedom of expression.
